Classroom Expectations

I try to keep classroom expectations simple and to the point. I think that it is important that students begin understanding what is expected of them as young adults (and adults) in the real world (not just at school). I have 2 classroom rules for students:
1. BE RESPONSIBLE
2. BE RESPECTFUL.
These 2 rules encompass a lot and are rules that can be used to build personalities/ habits of students.
Boys Town Skills are a great reinforcer on being a respectful and responsible individual.

  1. I like those rules! You are right that they can cover just about anything. With preschool I have to be a little more specific but I think for those that understand what being responsible and respectful is, they would work. I find the Boys Town Skills helpful with my kids as well. I need to get better at directly practicing them with the kids though.

  2. I think those 2 rules are perfect! Short and sweet but all encompassing! Not a laundry list of what NOT to do! You Rock! and I want my kids in your classroom for the record!

  3. I always appreciate expectations that are positive and simple, and these two do just that. When students are expected to respect each other, they learn that it's okay to disagree with another student, as long as they do it in the right way.
